Did my pay rise beat my bill price rises?
Compare the percentage change in your pay with the percentage change in your own bills. Use matching periods and the same currency for every amount.
What the number means
Use comparable periods, such as two monthly payslips and the same monthly bills. Keep gross or take-home pay consistent across the pair. A change in your bills total may reflect usage or different items as well as prices. This compares the figures you enter; it is not an inflation index or advice. An old amount must be above zero for a percentage change to be defined.
Use the same currency for every amount. This calculator sends nothing and stores nothing.
Check it by hand
For each pair, subtract the old amount from the new amount, divide by the old amount, and multiply by 100. Pay from 1000 to 1050 rose 5%. Bills from 400 to 440 rose 10%. The difference between those changes is 5 percentage points.
