How do I find annual subscriptions that renew this year?

Look across a full year

Annual charges are easier to trace with records covering more than one monthly statement. Write the year you are checking at the top of your paper. Gather the available statements from the preceding year and the current year, keeping each currency separate. Scan for descriptions linked to subscriptions in your receipts or account records. Copy the payment date, exact description and amount for each possible match.

Match payments to dated records

Draw columns for the previous payment, the service period, the stated renewal date and the source. A receipt or subscription record may identify an annual term and a next date. Copy that wording and date exactly. A payment that appears once in a year is a candidate to investigate in your own papers; frequency alone does not establish that it is an annual subscription.

Separate confirmed dates from calendar estimates

Where a current record states a renewal date inside this year, put it in a dated list. Where only last year's payment is available, write its anniversary as an estimate and label the source as last year's statement. Keep already paid renewals separate from upcoming stated dates. The distinction makes the list readable without treating a past payment as evidence of a future transaction.

Example: made-up figures

Imagine a subscription receipt showing an annual payment of 120 on 10 March last year and a stated renewal date of 10 March this year. A second record states a renewal of 60 on 20 November this year. The listed amounts add to 180. If the March payment already appears on this year's statement, the list contains 120 recorded as paid and 60 attached to the upcoming stated date.

Check coverage and totals

Tick each statement month you reviewed and note gaps in the records. Group the dated entries by month, then add their listed amounts within each currency. Keep estimated anniversaries in their own subtotal. Retain the original receipt or page reference beside every line. The result shows annual subscriptions evidenced by your records, their stated dates and amounts, and which entries rest only on a previous payment.
